Three self-promotion tips for graphic designers

Whether you're a freelancer working on your own projects with your own clients, a seasoned designer working for a longtime firm or a casual user of design programs creating your projects on the side for fun, there are a few things every graphic designer should consider doing to cement themselves in the design world. Here are a few of our favorite tips:

1. Create a brand for yourself
As graphic designers, almost all of us have made logos, business cards and other collateral for our clients, but what about for ourselves? Having an identifiable brand makes you stand out from a crowd and helps you to market yourself and your work so consider taking a break from your usual work to make your creativity work for you.

2. Create a website
A website is an incredible tool for marketing yourself and creates a terrific opportunity to showcase your work. Even if you're not looking to make graphic design your fulltime gig, putting together an online portfolio is a great way to preserve your work and share it with others.

3. Network
We know the word "network" has been dreaded in certain circles in years gone by, bringing visions of conference showrooms and the passing out of thousands of business cards, shaking the hands of more people than you can possibly remember, but it doesn't have to be like that. Firstly, many conferences of those types simply aren't functioning that way since the onset of the COVID-normal. Secondly, there are way more fun ways to connect with others with similar interests thanks to the internet – check out forums like Discord and groups on social media to connect with like-minded people in your field.
